Square Mile Coffee

Primary goal
Primary goal: grow AOV, subscription attach rate and repeat purchase behaviour for Square Mile Coffee Roasters by surfacing subscription upgrades, a £30 free-sample threshold, post-purchase restock offers and curated PDP mix-and-match.
Current State
Current state
- Premium whole bean coffee across Espresso, Filter and Decaf (11 SKUs, £15.25–£28.25), plus equipment, merchandise and an established wholesale channel.
- Subscriptions already exist but are under-promoted: customers must find the subscription page themselves; there is no upgrade prompt in cart, checkout or post-purchase flows.
- The only active attach today is a 15% discount on the first 6 subscription shipments when buying a Sage espresso machine — a strong mechanic not yet extended to repeat coffee purchases.
- No threshold unlock, sample offer or mix-and-match bundle is active on the PDP, cart or thank-you pages.
- Coffee is a habit-driven consumable with natural 2–3 week replenishment cycles, making low-friction subscription and flavour discovery highly relevant.
Recommended revenue expansion initiatives
Upgrade to Subscription (Cart & Checkout)
Increase lifetime value by converting one-time coffee buyers into subscribers.
Why?
- Whole bean coffee is consumed in predictable 2–3 week cycles, making subscriptions a natural fit.
- Customers who subscribe reorder more often and generate higher LTV.
When a coffee SKU with a subscription plan is detected in the cart, show a one-tap "Switch to subscription" card in the cart drawer and at checkout. The line item swaps to a subscription on acceptance and shows the chosen frequency and discount. Keep it optional and avoid pressure for first-time buyers.

£30 Free Sample Unlock
Increase AOV by nudging baskets over a £30 threshold with a free discovery sample.
Why?
- Most coffee SKUs sit at £15–£28, just below the threshold, so a small bump unlocks the reward.
- Samples encourage flavor exploration and future repeat purchases.
Show a real-time progress bar in the cart drawer and at checkout: "You're £X away from a free 30g sample." Once the cart reaches £30, offer a curated 30g sample as a gift line item. Rotate one seasonal coffee to keep discovery fresh and avoid over-discounting.

Post-Purchase Subscription & Refill (TY / OS / Account)
Capture incremental subscription and refill revenue after checkout without harming conversion.
Why?
- Thank-you, order status and account pages have high buyer attention and no checkout friction.
- Customers who just bought are warm leads for a repeat or subscription commitment.
On the thank-you and order status pages, show a "Never run out" offer to subscribe to the exact coffee just purchased. In the customer account, surface a one-tap "Restock" widget for repeat or subscription orders. Keep one primary offer per surface.

PDP Cross-Sell & Mix-and-Match
Increase units per transaction and flavor attach rate.
Why?
- 11 coffee SKUs across Espresso, Filter and Decaf make discovery a natural part of the buying journey.
- Customers buying one bag often need more than one; bundling lowers decision friction.
On each PDP show a "Complete your set" block with 2–3 curated complements in the same category. Offer a modest multi-bag saving, e.g. "Any 3 bags for £X" or "Add a second bag and save 5%". Avoid unrelated equipment unless it completes a clear routine.

Expected business outcomes
Expected business outcomes
- Higher subscription attach rate and LTV from one-tap upgrades at cart and checkout.
- More orders crossing £30 with a low-cost sample that drives flavour discovery.
- Increased units per transaction from curated "Complete your set" blocks on PDPs.
- Improved customer retention through post-purchase and account-page restock prompts.
- Minimal checkout friction: every offer is optional, relevant and limited to 3–4 visible options.
What we do NOT recommend
What we are not recommending
- Forcing a subscription on first-time buyers.
- Deep discounting that erodes the premium brand perception.
- Unrelated cross-sells (e.g., espresso machines on a £17 coffee purchase).
- Overly complex bundle builders with too many choices.
- Showing more than 3–4 offers on any single surface.
Next steps
Next steps
- Square Mile confirms subscription discount rate, eligible subscription SKUs and the coffee sample / £30 threshold economics.
- UpsellPlus sets up the cart and checkout subscription upgrade, the £30 sample unlock, the TY/OS/account post-purchase offer and the PDP mix-and-match block in draft.
- Square Mile reviews copy, product mappings and offer priority.
- Go live with a 2-week pre-launch baseline, then review % orders over £30, subscription attach rate, units per transaction and post-purchase conversion after ~30 days.
