Stop burying your best products: what your collection pages are really telling you

See which products shoppers skip, which ones they'd buy if they found them, and what to move. Collection Intelligence for Shopify, free to start.

Most shoppers don't search. They browse. They land on a collection page, scroll a few rows, click something that catches their eye, or leave.

Yet the order of most collection pages comes down to gut feel, “best selling”, or whatever was set up at launch. And analytics usually stop at “this page got 4,000 views”. They don't tell you which products were seen, which were skipped, or which ones would sell if shoppers could find them.

Collection Intelligence in UpsellPlus fills that gap. It tracks every product tile on your collection pages: how often each one is seen, clicked and added to cart, and where it sits on the page. Then it tells you what to change.

Here are the questions it answers.

1. Which products am I burying?

A product in the top row will always get more clicks than one in row 12. That doesn't make it a better product; it just gets seen more. So raw click numbers mostly show you where you put things.

Collection Intelligence compares each product with what an average product gets in the same spot. A product low in the grid that's clicked far more than that spot usually gets is a hidden gem: shoppers like it, but few of them scroll far enough to see it.

Every finding comes with the next step. Click “Move it up” and the collection's sort order opens in Shopify, ready to change.

A necklace collection grid with a score on each product. Halo Charm, in the bottom row, is flagged as a hidden gem that shoppers click 2.3 times more than products usually get in that spot.

2. How far down do shoppers actually scroll?

See the click rate for every row of the grid, on mobile and desktop, and how many views ever get past row 10.

For most stores, the top few rows do most of the work. Knowing where the drop-off is tells you:

  • what has to sit in the top rows;
  • where new arrivals and seasonal products should go;
  • whether a collection is simply too long.
Click rate by row, falling as shoppers scroll down the collection, and a product moved up into the top row.

3. Shoppers click it but don't buy it. Now what?

Some products get plenty of clicks but few orders. Shoppers are interested but not convinced. Collection Intelligence flags them. With one click you can set up an offer that shows them again to the shoppers who viewed them, so you win back the sale without discounting the whole store.

4. Does this product belong in this collection?

Most products sit in more than one collection, and they rarely do equally well in all of them. Open a product to see how it does in each collection it's in, allowing for where it sits.

When it does at least 1.5× better somewhere else but sits low there, we suggest moving it up in that collection, for example “does 2.3× better in Gifts under $100, but sits around row 9 there”. It's a quick way to check your cross-merchandising and how your collections are put together.

Halo Charm compared across three collections. It does 2.3 times better in Gifts under $100, where it sits around row 9, so moving it up there is suggested.

5. Did my change work?

You moved a product to the top, put it on sale, or reshot its cover image. Did it help?

Every product has a trend over time: its click rate, shown next to what's typical for its position. Markers show when it changed position, price or cover image. Store-wide sales are grouped as a single marker, so the chart doesn't fill up with dots.

We're honest about what this shows: what happened after a change, not proof that the change caused it. It's still far better than guessing.

Halo Charm's 7-day click rate over time next to what's typical for its spot, with numbered markers for a move up the grid, a new cover image and a store-wide sale.

6. Which shoppers care about what?

A shopper from your newsletter doesn't browse like one from a TikTok ad. See how shoppers from each source (direct, search, email, paid social) move through each collection, from viewing to clicking, adding to cart and ordering.

Visitor insights point out the differences worth knowing, such as “Direct visitors click Necklaces 1.6× more than everyone else”. Each insight links straight to that collection, filtered to those visitors, so you can see which products they're drawn to.

Use it to decide where your ads and emails send people, and which collection to feature for which audience.

7. Which campaigns and ads lead to orders?

Your ad platform tells you who clicked the ad. Collection Intelligence shows what those visitors did next: for each campaign and ad, how many collection visits, product clicks, add-to-carts and orders it brought in. You also see which products paid traffic clicks most, so your landing collections can lead with them.

FAQ

Does Collection Intelligence change my collections automatically?

No. Every change is one you make. When we suggest moving a product, the button opens the collection's sort order in Shopify for you to change and save.

How long until I see findings?

It depends on your traffic. We only show a finding once a product has been seen enough times to compare it fairly, so busy collections show findings sooner than quiet ones.

What does Collection Intelligence cost?

It's free to start: you get the full findings for one collection, plus real numbers for every other collection. Full access is priced by your monthly order volume.
